Principal Appreciation Week
This week, I recognize the extraordinary efforts of our principals, assistant principals and dean of students during the state's Principal Appreciation Week.
A proclamation signed by Governor Quinn in July, highlights the important role of these administrators in education and their support toward growth of children in elementary, middle and secondary schools across the state of Illinois. As we celebrate our District 70 leaders during Principal Appreciation Week, October 20-24, and Principal Appreciation Day on October 24, I am proud of all that they do for the children, parents and staff throughout our learning community and am grateful for the many hats they wear, talents they possess and commitments they offer.
Please join me in thanking them during this week/day of recognition.

Dr. Guy Schumacher

Please Slow Down, Schools Are Open
We continue to ask all residents to please be careful when driving around the schools.
Many of our students are out and about on foot, walking to and from school. Please be aware of pedestrian traffic.
Please be alert around the schools as students are dropped off for class or early activities. Please review approved drop-off areas around the schools, especially at Highland Middle School where the drop-off procedure and a map can be found on the school website.
Please pay attention to signage at the schools related to parking, no cell phone use in a school zone, no U-turns and please have students exit the car on the curb side so they do not cross lanes of traffic.
We all need to work together to keep our children safe. (Photo from the Chicago Tribune, Milwaukee Avenue in 1966.)
