Rockland School is a true K-5 neighborhood school. Built in 1927, Rockland features classrooms with beautiful wooden window and door moldings and cloakrooms in the original portion of the building. The front bowed portion of the school was originally intended for use as a stage. Thus, the kindergarten classroom that is now housed in the front has small staircases leading into it on two sides.
Most of our 307 students reside in homes that are within walking distance. Our grade levels vary in enrollment and have 2-3 sections while our class average is 18-23 students per classroom teacher. Our school colors are blue and white. Rocky the Raptor, our school mascot, leads our Halloween Parade and makes other appearances throughout the year.
Our Rockland Family Association (RFA) is very active and funds many projects and assemblies to help enhance learning for our children. Each year the RFA sends the entire school to a professional theatre production. The RFA hosts a variety of fundraising or family activities that bring our community closer together. Our business partners, Partners for Excellence in Education, provide mini-grant funds for staff members to create and implement innovative programs for our children.
Our students and staff are working with state-of-the-art technology and software. In addition to a computer lab that contains enough desktop computers for a whole class, each classroom contains a document camera and Promethean Board (interactive whiteboard). Carts of laptops,iPods, and iPads are available for student use as well.
Our teachers are creative, innovative and passionate about meeting the individual needs of each student. They engage in ongoing professional development. Many hold or are seeking a Master's degree. Rockland School is dedicated to meeting the needs of the whole child. Our focus for the 2012-2013 school year is on the use of interactive technology devices to equip students and staff with 21st century learning skills, as well as to continue to increase student reading achievment.

District 70's Mission: To ensure that District 70 students experience learning that prepares them to live and work in the 21st Century.
