| Monies for Moore - The Moore We Can Offer, The Better |
District 70 will be collecting money to help the victims of the tornado that hit Moore, Ok., earlier this week. The fundraiser is called "Monies for Moore - The Moore We Can Offer, The Better!" Collection cans will be set out in each school office by the district's Character Counts Committee. Monies collected may be earmarked for the American Red Cross in Oklahoma City to help with recovery. "The devastation and impact on Oklahoma and the Plaza Towers Elementary School hit hard and is painful to comprehend," said Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher. "Anything we can gather in these short days before school is out will be beneficial, I am certain." |

| Walk Now For Autism Speaks |
|
Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders--autism spectrum disorders-caused by a combination of genes and environmental influences. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by communication difficulties, social and behavioral challenges, as well as repetitive behaviors. An estimated 1 in 88 children in the U.S. is on the autism spectrum- a 78% increase in six years that is only partly explained by improved diagnosis. Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization, was founded in February 2005 by Suzanne and Bob Wright, the grandparents of a child Child with autism. It is dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocation for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. Help support a good cause! This year the Autism Speaks Foundation celebrates it's 10th Anniversary for "Walk Now for Autism Speaks: Chicago!" Please consider supporting our District 70 Team by joining for the walk in May 18th or purchasing a t-shirt designed by one of our own District 70 students! Here is a link to join as a walker: http://www.walknowforautismspeaks.org/chicago/libertyvilled70 If you would like to purchase a t-shirt: Click here. Please complete the order form and return it with your money to Keeley Lawriw at Rockland. Rockland students will also be able to help support Autism Speaks by creating art work to be auctioned off at our upcoming Open House and Art Show on April11th. On April 1st and 2nd, students may come to the Art room during their scheduled lunchtimeto create artwork for the auction. Our student's masterpieces will be displayed for the Auction at Open House. Thank you for your support! |

| Changes in ISAT Cut Scores |
|
Higher performance expectations will likely result in a downward shift of where our students rank in meeting and/or exceeding state standards on the tests. This is not an indication that our students know less or are less academically capable or prepared, but that they are being measured against more rigorous standards. |
